What If?

Last night, I went outside to get some fresh air before I went to sleep. On my way down the stairwell I heard two young men walking up the stairs having a conversation. Suddenly one of them said:

"Nah bro, I dont fuck with genocide,"

of his own volition, mind you.

Eventually we crossed paths and it turned out that it was two white men in their early twenties coming back from a day on the golf course.

When I think about the conversation that must have been had leading up to that statement and the tone with which it was expressed, to me, it implies that there is a fissure in the way they think about how the world is currently structured.

Last night, I may have overheard someone on the journey of departing from what is expected of him.

Although I don't believe exceptionalism is a harbinger of change, revolutionary optimism is beginning to feel very irresistible.

Why not?
